EXTREME Intervals

Extreme Intervals consists of 3-5 people working their tails off and motivating each other at the same time. This small group class is run by Stephanie Kemp, and includes a combination of core strength and high intensity burst intervals. Burst Training has been shown to be extremely effective for losing weight and increasing overall fitness. The class uses spin bikes, kettle bells, TRX, and plyometrics. Tabata (20 seconds of high intensity bursts followed by 10 seconds rest) will be included!

For information and sign-up, contact Stephanie at swk1228@comcast.net

For Women Only

Interval training designed specifically for women.  Alternating between weights, cardio (spin and other), mat work (Pilates/yoga), balance and flexibility, this class is about going for a good burn and practicing body work mindfully. Included is a free health consultation with instructor Carol Frazier, NSCA-CPT, Integrated Wellness Coach, and Certified Holistic Health Counselor, as well as weekly check-ins and handouts about various health and wellness concerns.  Class size: 2 or 4.

For information and sign-up, contact Carol at 615.423.3744 or carolfrazier@comcast.net

Quartet Classes

If you didn’t find exactly what you’re looking for in the classes above, why not make up your own? Each “Q Class” provides a solid base of cardio training, but where you go from there is up to you – and your group – to decide. It’s fitness by committee. You say your bowling buddies want to add Yoga? Your Bridge group prefers plyometrics? Maybe your Civil War reenactment crew would like to begin their very own Reconstruction. Just tell us what you want, and we’ll make it happen!’

Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s

Rock Steady Boxing was the brainchild of Scott Newman of Indiana who, after diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) took up boxing training and discovered he moved and felt better. At STEPS Fitness we have had many clients present with neurodegenerative diseases such as PD and Multiple Sclerosis and post-stroke syndromes. The one-on-one attention in an environment oriented to the needs and concerns of all levels of clientele, where safety is the primary interest, people with these diseases were assured that their needs and capabilities would be properly attended.

It was Colleen Bridges who, working with one and then a couple more PD clients, took it upon herself to learn the fundamentals of boxing from Dr. Irv and Scott Kinney, both black belts in Tae Kwon Do, before getting certified in Rock Steady Boxing. She now runs several classes a week at STEPS with the assistance of a team of ‘corner men’ and women to ensure safety and provide assistance with and during the intense workouts which have received substantial support in the medical literature.

Contact Colleen Bridges at nashbridges@comcast.net for more information and the schedule of classes.
